Suicide Aware Cruze
Host: Didsbury Car Club
Description: Suicide is second to cancer as the leading causes of death for young people between 15 and 25 years of age in Canada. Alberta has the second-highest youth suicide rate in Canada. In an effort to raise awareness for mental health issues, the Didsbury Car Club and area firefighters have combined forces to bring us the 4th Annual Suicide Awareness Cruze Dice Roll. Suicide is a complex issue involving numerous factors. Not all people who die by suicide have been diagnosed with a mental illness and not all people with a mental illness attempt to end their lives by suicide. According to the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention, today in Canada approximately 11 people will end their lives by suicide. In addition, approximately 210 others will attempt to end their lives by suicide today. For each death by suicide, it has been estimated that the lives of 7-10 bereaved ‘survivors” are profoundly affected. This Dice Roll will help people understand a little more about Suicide. Don't know what a Dice Roll is? When you register, you'll find out all the information. Basically, you get one (1) Roll Card for $5 and 5 for $20. All you do is meet up at the Centex/Tim Horton's parking lot at 8 am. Cruise departs Didsbury between 8:45 am and 9 am. For a minimum pledge of $50, you can take part. It's a rally of vehicles, motorcycles - anything road worthy! Pledge Forms are available at the Get Fueled Nights at Didsbury Centex/Tim Hortons, or by contacting dana.didscarclubyahoo.ca or crystal.didscarclubgmail.com. Meals include a Breakfast Buffet (at participants' price), and a free lunch hosted at Westview Co-op's Cardlock at Sundre. Put the STAR on your CAR! Please contact the Didsbury Car Club for decals and/or magnets and together let's SHINE! It is their hope that those affected and those contemplating will call for compassion and help. The route goes through Carstairs, Crossfield, Cremona, Water Valley, Sundre, and Olds, with a final stop Carstairs Show and Shine, expected between 3 and 3:30 pm. Then there's music and beverages to follow at Beef and Barley Days. Funds raised are dedicated to 1-800-Suicide Awareness Decals and Magnets ... Put the STAR on your CAR! Funds raised will also be donated to our local Victim Services Unit to assist with their costs. Cruze Route Map will be posted on mydidsbury.ca. Check back for details.
